The mother of all cricket games that is ICC T20 World Cup is about to be played this year.  ICC announced last year that ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 which was scheduled to be held in 2020 was postponed to 2021.  

The prevailing COVID-19 conditions in and around the globe forced ICC to take this decision. India was selected as the country to host the mega event. India will host the 7th edition of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. ICC also announced subsequently, the 8th edition of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia in year 2022.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 SCHEDULE

ICC had postponed the T20 world cup 2020 due to COVID-19 conditions. However, they have persisted with the same format for the tournament. The tournament will start on 18th October and will witness the finale on the 15th of November. Total match – 45

BCCI has shortlisted the locations where they are planning to host the matches. Since we don’t know about the COVID-19 conditions during Oct-Nov 2021, so, BCCI is planning to hold matches in few bigger cities in order to avoid unnecessary travel.

Talking about shortlisted venues, BCCI has picked

Ahmedabad — Narendra Modi stadium ( capacity – 132,000)

Bangalore — M Chinnaswamy stadium ( 40,000)

Chennai — M.A.Chidambaram stadium (50,000)

Delhi — Arun Jaitely stadium (41820)

Dharamshala- Himachal Pradesh cricket association stadium (26950)

Hyderabad – Rajeev Gandhi stadium ( 55,000)

Kolkata- Eden Gardens stadium ( 66,350)

Mumbai – Wankhede stadium ( 33108)

to host the matches for World Cup. This list is still under consideration as BCCI is planning to add few more cities.

The final match of the ICC T20 World Cup will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and while Mumbai and Kolkata will host the semifinals .

Latest updates on ICC men’s T20 world cup 2021

It seems that COVID situation in India could hamper the chance of ICC men’s T20 world cup to be held later this year. Seeing the rising COVID-19 cases and the situation, ICC has put UAE on standby for the mega event to be held in case the situation in India does not improve by august. But, since the tournament is 6 months from now, BCCI is hopeful for the conduct of this mega event in India.

According to BCCI officials, the Pakistan team’s visa problem has been resolved, so there is every possibility that the Pakistani team will also take part in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 .

The most awaited cricketing event ICC Men’s T20 world cup 2021 is scheduled to be held in India during Oct-Nov 2021. The hosting rights are currently with India. It was expected that during the recently held SGM of BCCI on 29th may, 2021, they would officially convey to ICC about its inability to conduct this event in India due to the COVID situation. But after the SGM meeting, BCCI has said that they are still confident that the situation would improve by the time the t20 Cricket World cup starts. They would take a final call in July after reviewing the situation.

Hosts India will be a sure shot favorites for ICC Men’s T20 WORLD CUP 2021 given the fact that India is hosting the world cup. They have a very balanced side and they have always been a team to beat in their own backyard.

West Indies, the current champions are ranked at 10th position. The defending Champions have the experience and know-how to win ICC T20 World Cups. Their last trophy win was really memorable.
