VIVO IPL 2021 is coming towards the end. The focus will now shift to IPL 2022, which will be a new structure tournament with two new teams. The performance of a few captains has been under the radar. Let us look at three teams that might change their captains ahead of the tournament.

Kane WilliamsonSunrisers Hyderabad

IPL 2022 had been a season to forget for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team has managed to win just two games out of 12 played so far. The entire IPL 2021 season was full of controversy for SRH. The team management removed David Warner mid-way during this season. Williamson was handed over the captaincy role. A lot of expectations were from one of the best captains of world cricket. But, he has failed to deliver for the team.

Kane Williamson has played average as a batsman in IPL 2021, scoring 235 runs in 9 innings. But, as the captain of the side, he has managed to win just a single game for SRH in 6 matches so far. His few tactical decisions also were criticized.

SRH team management will have to sit on the drawing board ahead of IPL 2022. It won’t be a surprise if we see a new captain for SRH in IPL 2022. There is a strong possibility that the team management may not even retain Kane in the mega auction.

Eoin Morgan- Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders are also hanging down the barrel. They somehow have managed to get the momentum, but it has been dismal when we talk of the overall performance. Eoin Morgan, as a captain, has failed to perform. His batting has been extremely below-par. In 13 matches, he has scored just 111 runs.

If we talk about the batting performance, it’s all about the valuable contribution from the openers Venkatesh Iyer and Shubhman Gill. The middle-order has failed. A lot of credit for the middle-order’s failure will go to the lack of form of Eoin Morgan.

The captain of KKR has also failed to lead the team in a better way. With just 6 wins from 13 matches played so far, the team is tottering at the moment. His drawback has been a few tactical decisions like changing the middle-order, giving rest to key players, and making silly decisions regarding field setting.

Whatever the final fate of KKR, it is almost sure that the team management will part ways with the underperforming Eoin Morgan in IPL 2022.

KL Rahul- Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings have been disappointed a lot since the last two years with their performance. Fans had a lot of expectations from them, but they have failed to deliver. They have won 5 and lost 8 matches in IPL 2021. KL Rahul, being the captain, has not done justice to his responsibility. There is no doubt about his batting. He was the orange cap holder last year.

This year also, KL Rahul is the leading run-scorer with 528 runs in 12 matches. But, a proverb says that not every good batsman can be a good captain. This fits best on KL Rahul.

He has failed to take PKBS to new heights. A few decisions like giving Nicolas Pooran many opportunities, despite him being out of touch, bringing Ravi Bishnoi late in the team, the exclusion of Chris Gayle in the initial few games, have not gone well with the team. IPL 2022 may see Punjab Kings opting for a new captain.
