IPL 2023: 3 Teams That Are Likely To Have A New Captain In The Season

PUNJAB KINGS

There was a lot of expectation from Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022. They managed to form a very formidable side, which comprised of power-packed batters and lethal bowlers. Although he made good tactical decisions, Mayank Agarwal could not lead his team to reach the playoff and beyond.

Under the captaincy of Mayank Agarwal, Punjab managed to register 7 wins from 14 matches and finished 6th in the IPL 2022 points table. His captaincy also affected his performance with the bat, as the dashing batsman scored just 196 runs in 13 innings, at a dismal average of 16.33. It seems the captaincy has taken a toll on his batting, and the team management might appoint a new captain for PBKS before IPL 2023.

MUMBAI INDIANS

Mumbai Indians had the worst IPL performance in history in the 15th edition. The men in blue, led by experienced Rohit Sharma, won just 4 games out of 14 and was placed at the bottom in the IPL 2022 points table. The 5-time IPL champions opened their points tally only after the first 8 games. Rohit Sharma has already been appointed as the captain for team India across all three formats.

The 35-year-old explosive batsman might relinquish his captaincy in the IPL so that he does not get too much burden. The MI franchise might appoint a new captain ahead of IPL 2023 to give Rohit Sharma the freedom at the top.

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD

Like Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad also had a season to forget in IPL 2022. The men in orange appointed Kane Willamson as the captain of the franchise after they sacked David Warner during IPL 2021. However, things did not pan out to be good for Kane, as he could not lead the side in a better way. SRH finished 8th in the IPL 2022 points table.

Although Williamson has announced his availability for the next season, it is doubtful that he will take over the captaincy for the IPL 2023. SRK might appoint a new captain ahead of the TATA IPL 2023.
