Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL 2022 Journey

The RCB fans had got a setback before the start of the 15th edition when their regular captain and the most admired cricketer Virat Kohli stepped down from the captaincy. The team management decided to give the leadership role to the South African veteran cricketer Faf Du Plessis. He led the team well in the IPL 2022. Although we cannot say that they had a great IPL, the men in maroon still played consistent cricket throughout the league stage. They won 7 matches before the playoff stage.

It was an irony that their fate was not in their own hands, as RCB could advance to the playoff stage only if Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals in the last league game. Their wishes came true as Delhi lost to arch-rivals Mumbai Indians, opening the doors of the playoff for RCB.

If we talk about the performance of RCB, the biggest positive was Dinesh Karthik. He had a fantastic IPL this season. He was instrumental in providing the finishing touch to the innings during the last 4-5 overs. Another young player Rajat Patidar played wonderful cricket towards the fag end. He scored a century in the playoff stage, followed by a half-century in the eliminator.

However, Virat Kohli could not perform better in the IPL 2022, scoring just 341 runs in 16 innings, which is way below his standards. The bowling department led by Wanindu Hasaranga gave good performances throughout the IPL 2022.
