Virat Kohli announced to step down from the captaincy of the Indian T20 cricket team after the ICC T20 world cup 2021. It was expected due to the access workload he was carrying on his shoulders being the captain of all formats for team India.

However, hardly anyone would have thought that days after announcing quitting the captaincy of the T20 team, he would also relinquish the captaincy of Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB).

On 19th September, evening, via a video message, he said that he will be quitting the captaincy of RCB after the end of VIVO IPL 2021 but will continue to be a part of the team until he plays his last IPL match. This clarifies that the team management will surely retain him in IPL 2022 Mega Auction, not as a captain but as a player in years to come.

Virat Kohli was appointed the captain of RCB in May 2012 after Daniel Vettori stepped down from this post. Under his captaincy, the team has failed to lift a single trophy. Kohli has led RCB in 136 matches. The team has won 62 matches and lost 67. 4 matches have no result and 3 tied.
