The current champion of the ICC T20 world cup is West Indies. They defeated England in the last over heroics at the Eden Gardens in the year 2016. That match will be remembered for the four back-to-back sixes by Carlos Brathwaite in the last over against Ben Stokes, who snatched the victory against England.

India is one of the favorites to lift the trophy this season. They have won the title only once and that was in the inaugural edition way back in the year 2007.

OPENERS

Rohit Sharma (WC) and KL Rahul

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will be the expected openers for this marquee event. Rohit is one of the best T20 openers currently playing cricket. He can play big innings fearlessly and tear apart the bowling attack.

His partner KL Rahul has also risen to the occasion with his excellent performance with the bat in the VIVO IPL 2021. Both these players may be the first pick by the team management for the opening slot.

MIDDLE – ORDER

Virat Kohli (C), Rishabh Pant (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Prithvi Shaw

Virat Kohli is expected to come at no 3 followed by the explosive Rishabh Pant. While Kohli can play the role of an anchor batsman, Rishabh Pant can go after the bowling attack. Then we may see the likes of Surya Kumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw contributing to the middle order. Both these batsmen can play innings as per the situation.

Prithvi and Surya Kumar Yadav look like mature batsmen who can bat at any position.

ALL ROUNDERS

Shardul Thakur, Ravindra Jadeja

The duo of Shardul and Ravindra Jadeja can be a better option for the all-rounder slot. Shardul is in the best form, and the team management cannot ignore him from the t20 world cup, seeing his ability to contribute with the bat in ongoing India vs England test series.

Jadeja is one of the best all-rounders currently in the T20 format and his position in the team seems untouched.

BOWLING ATTACK

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaspreet Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal

Bhuvi, Bumrah, and Chahal are expected to lead the bowling attack. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s consistent performance with the ball in the IPL can make him a strong contender in the playing XI. Bumrah is not in the best of forms, but he is too good a player to be left out.

Yuzvendra Chahal can find himself in the team as a specialist spinner ahead of Kuldeep Yadav due to his off-spin variety and better command over flighted deliveries.

This can be the expected playing X1 for team India in the first T20. However, we assume 4 more players will be on the radar of the selectors and the team management. Prithvi Shaw, Krunal Pandya, Deepak Chahar, and Shikhar Dhawan these players may also knock the doors for a place in the playing XI with a good performance in the VIVO IPL 2021 part 2 in the UAE.
