IPL 2023: Three Delhi Capitals Players Who Can Win The Orange Cap In The Tournament

#3 David Warner

The Australian opener looked out of form in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 but the left-hander is capable of making a gutsy comeback as we have witnessed in the past. The 35-year-old destructive hitting abilities can destroy any bowling attack when he gets going as we have witnessed previously. New appointed DC captain David Warner can outgun the opposition bowling with his powerful cuts and pulls.

The left-hander scored 432 runs in 12 IPL games in the last IPL season with an average of 48 and a strike rate of 150.52. Warner’s adaptability even on turning wickets makes him a big threat. Warner is a big-match player as he can single-handedly run through any attack with his aggressive style of batting.

Many wouldn’t consider him a favourite for the Orange Cap due to his poor form off-late but Warner is a fighter when it comes to making comebacks so he can’t be taken lightly.

#2 Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh is another destructive player who can outpunch the opposition with his counter-attacking style of play and unorthodox stroke play. The powerful striker can dominate when he gets going. The burly all-rounder can be a shaky start when it comes to facing the spinners but against pace Marsh can be a big accelerator when he gets set. The right-hander can adjust in any batting position which makes him a dangerous finisher.

He is not afraid of hitting the seamers down the ground early on with the new ball as well as the old ball. His powerful bottom hand helps him generate enough power to hit the ball on the up even against a good length delivery. Marsh has looked in fine form in the ODI series against India.

The 31-year-old can pull the ball with tremendous power even if there is uneven or low bounce. He scored 251 in 8 games last IPL season with an average of 32.37 and a strike rate of 132.80 which makes him one of the favorites for the Orange Cap this season.

#1 Prithvi Shaw

In the absence of Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw’s form will be crucial to hold the top order together. The right-hander scored a brilliant 379 against Assam during the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy season racking up 595 runs in 6 matches altogether with an average of 59.50 and a strike rate of 92.39 in the entire season.

The right-hander can pace his innings well and adjust his technique depending on the conditions which is his biggest strength. The opener can play some fine front and back foot punches as well as square cuts. Shaw has the ability to use the pace of the bowlers to guide the ball in the gaps which he does effortlessly. Shaw’s footwork allows him to judge the length well on fast as well as slow wickets.

Although the youngster needs some more experience, the right-hander highlighted classic stroke play in the last IPL season which is why he is one of the favorites to win the Orange Cap in IPL 2023. He scored 283 runs in 10 IPL games last season with a strike rate of 152.97.
