The plans for the induction of two new teams from IPL 2022 have been put on hold by the BCCI. According to the source, the sudden postponement of the IPL 2021 midway has to lead the plans to go haywire. BCCI was to start bidding for two new IPL teams a few months from now. The emergence of the COVID pandemic has made them rethink their strategy.

BCCI right now is deliberating about how the remaining matches of IPL 2021 can be conducted. They are evaluating all scenarios by which they can complete this tournament. According to the source, no discussion right now is taking place about two new teams. All focus is on completing the current edition of the cash-rich league. There were reports that the franchises were told to prepare for two new teams. But this plan as of now has been postponed.
