Dinesh Karthik started his career in 2004 and has been in and out of the team India. He could not cement in place for a longer duration due to his inconsistent performance with the bat. Also, the emergence of MS Dhoni in Indian cricket and his dominance with the bat and behind the gloves confined Dinesh Karthik to domestic cricket and IPL. He last appeared for India in the 2019 world cup and since then was ignored by the selection committee.

The cricket pundits had already written off Dinesh Karthik to stage a comeback in the Indian cricket team. His stint with KKR was also not good, as he was first removed from the captaincy and, later on, was axed from the team. He even accepted the role of becoming a commentator for a leading broadcasting channel. It seemed as if Dinesh Karthik’s days with the Indian Cricket were over. However, when RCB decided to give Dinesh Karthik a chance to play for their franchise in IPL 2022, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Dinesh Karthik’s Comeback To The Indian Cricket Team

“If you believe yourself, everything will fall into place!  Thank you for all the support and belief. the hard work continues…” This was the tweet from Dinesh Karthik on the evening when the selectors picked him for the T20 series against India.

His performance in the IPL 2022 gave the selectors enough reasons to include him in the T20 team. He opened up about his efforts outside the cricket field, such as training, workout, brainstorming his batting skills, etc. All the effort finally paid off.

What Was The Thing Which Worked For Dinesh Karthik?

The RCB team management did the best thing for him, giving Dinesh Karthik the fixed role of a finisher. In this way, Dinesh Karthik was ready to play the innings required towards the end. We all saw him coming and hitting boundaries and sixes with ease. Playing for the RCB, Karthik scored 330 runs at an average of 55 and a staggering strike rate of 183.33.

This strategy was missing in his previous team KKR, which always kept changing the batting order of the wicket-keeper batsman, making him unsure what to do in which game.

Role of Dinesh Karthik In The Indian T20 Team

With the upcoming ICC T20 world cup 2022, it is almost sure that Dinesh Karthik will feature in the list of the players who will be chosen to represent India in the marquee event. Although we might not find him behind the stumps, with the presence of Rishabh Pant. However, seeing his performance as a finisher in the IPL 2022, he will most likely be assigned the same role for the team.

With players such as Pant, Pandya, and Jadeja in the team, Dinesh Karthik will provide that extra cushion for the batting order to finish the innings on a high note. All eyes will be on the 36 years old veteran if he manages to continue the good form and bring glory to India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
