CSK STRENGTH

CSK, during the recently concluded IPL 2022 mega auction, has managed to retain most of the players who were part of the IPL 2021 edition. Under the calm guidance of MS Dhoni, they have players such as Jadeja, Bravo, Rayudu, Deepak Chahar, Moeen Ali, Ruturaj Gaikwad, etc., who have already played together. This will help them to jell up together as a unit.

These players have handled pressure situations and have managed to outsmart other teams. Overall, the tremendous experience within the CSK squad will be an advantage for them as they start preparations for the IPL 2022.

CSK WEAKNESS

Chennai Super Kings could not manage to purchase Faf Du Plessis in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Also, they did not show any intention to purchase the veteran Suresh Raina. Considering how important these two players were for CSK over the years, it has created a void within the batting order. This can backfire CSK if the openers fail. The middle-order looks a shade below power, and CSK team management will have to find a perfect batting order to iron out this weakness.

CSK OPPORTUNITIES

Chennai Supers Kings has purchased a few young Indian bowlers who have a golden opportunity to rise to the occasion and impact the team. All eyes will be on the under 19 fast bowlers Rajvardhan Hangargekar and the mystery spinner Mahesh Theeksana. They will be eager to make a mark in the IPL 2022 edition.

CSK has a few proven match-winner bowlers such as Deepak Chahar, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwane Bravo. If these two young Indian bowlers also contribute to the team’s cause, it will just be the icing on the cake for CSK.

CSK THREATS

Although CSK has the most experienced squad among all the IPL franchises, this also poses a threat. There are a few players who are regular members of the playing X1 and are aged above 35. It might bring injury issues to them. We have already seen in the past that players above 35+ age have become injured mid-way during the IPL. These players also lack agility on the ground in the Feilding, as they are not fast movers. Chennai Super King will have to address this issue.
