Asia Cup 2022: SWOT Analysis of The Indian Cricket Team. The time has finally arrived when Asian cricket teams will face each other in the 15th edition of the Asia Cup, scheduled to start on 27th August 2022. 5 teams, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, have already announced their full squad, and preparation to formulate the best team combination and best strategies have already commenced.

The Asia Cup will provide the team management with the final opportunity to iron out any issues whatsoever, as the marquee event, ICC T20 World Cup 2022, is not too far away, with the first match to be played on the 13th of October. But, before that, the talking point is Asia Cup.

Let us do a SWOT analysis of team India ahead of their opening match against Pakistan on 28th August.

STRENGTH

The biggest strength of team India is their batting depth and experience. Players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Surya Kumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant are not just names but players who can take the game away from the opponents in no time.

The batting lineup of India is undoubtedly the best among all 5 teams participating in the Asia Cup 2022. They are experienced enough to handle pressure in crunch games, and it will immensely help them in the knockout matches if and when they reach there.

WEAKNESS

It was very surprising to see that the selectors have opted for only 3 specialist fast bowlers in the squad for the Asia cup 2022. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, and Avesh Khan will have their tasks cut out, with Hardik Pandya expected to provide the extra cushion with his 4 overs of medium-pace bowling.

This will be an area of concern for India and can prove to be their biggest weakness. If we exclude Bhuvi, then the rest two pace bowlers have not played more than 10 t20 games for India.

OPPORTUNITIES

India has always been a spin-heavy team, and the squad for the Asia Cup includes spinners such as Chahal, Jadeja, Ravi Bishnoi, and Ashwin. They will have the best opportunity to utilize the spin-friendly wickets of the UAE.

They will be fully aware that the pace bowling attack will be exposed, and the spinners can put brakes on the opponent’s batters. It should not be a surprise if we see 3 specialist spinners in the playing X1.

THREATS

India’s biggest threat will be the injury concerns of players over the last few months. Jadeja, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Kohli, and Avesh Khan, have all recovered from their injuries during the previous 5-6 months.

Although they are expected to be fully fit as and when the first match starts, injury concerns will always be in the back of their minds and the team management. It will be pivotal for the players not to get injured, as an injury in Asia Cup can affect the team negatively in this series and the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
