IPL 2023 Auction: Predicted Retention Of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The Indian Premier League 16th edition will take place in India from April-June 2023. As has been the case before the start of every IPL season, for the next season as well, there will be an auction conducted. The IPL 2023 auction is expected to take place in February 2023. Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the defending champions, are having a season to forget.

The men in yellow are languishing at the second last position in the IPL 2022 points table, with just 4 wins from 13 matches. In the IPL 2022 mega auction, they backed their old horses, and that has backfired them. They will have to make some tactical changes ahead of IPL 2023 auction. Let us look at 4 players CSK might retain before IPL 2023 auction:

RUTURAJ GAIKWAD

Ruturaj Gaikwad is the first player that CSK will most likely retain ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. The IPL 2022 has been a reasonably moderate year for the CSK opener. He has scored 366 runs in 13 innings, which is a shade below the standard which he has set for himself in the last 2 seasons. Given his impact as an opener, it is a no-brainer that CSK will stick to their most consistent batsmen.

DEVON CONWAY

Devon Conway got a chance to represent CSK this season after Jadeja relinquished the captaincy. The Kiwi batsman has scored three half-centuries in 6 innings, scoring 236 runs. The left-handed batsman looks very elegant and can score runs with ease. If Devon Coway continues his excellent form in the remaining 2 games, it is most likely that CSK will retain him ahead of IPL 2023 auction.

DEEPAK CHAHAR

CSK purchased Deepak Chahar in the IPL 2022 mega auction for a whopping 14 crores. All eyes were on him and how he performs. But, they got a huge setback when their most consistent bowler for the last 2 editions suffered an injury and was ruled out of the entire IPL 2022. However, Deepak Chahar has been in exceptional form in the limited-overs cricket. He is expected to start his cricket action soon. CSK will most likely retain him ahead of IPL 2023 auction, given his valuable contribution and value to the team.

RAVINDRA JADEJA/ DWAYNE BRAVO

It is a brainer to say that Jadeja is going through a rough patch this IPL season. He was elected as the franchise’s captain before the start of the season, but he could not live up to the expectation. This made him resign from the captaincy mid-way in the ongoing IPL 2022. His captaincy pressure has also affected his batting and bowling. But, given the enormous experience which Jadeja possesses, he can still be on the list of players whom CSK will retain in the IPL 2023 auction.

The same goes with another seasoned player for CSK, Dwayne Bravo. He has also not performed as per the expectations. But we all know that Dwane Bravo has always been one of the best foreign players for CSK. His change of pace is still his asset and gives him wickets. CSK will be enticed to pick Dwane Bravo before the IPL 2023 auction.

We should not be surprised to see Dhoni not among the retention list for CSK in the IPL 2023 auction. It is almost certain that he will hang his boots after the final league match of IPL 2022. Dhoni is already 40 years old, and his reflexes have gone down drastically. He is too wise to let the team hamper, and Dhoni will surely make way for new prospects before the IPL 2023 auction.
