The men in yellow appointed Ravindra Jadeja as the new captain for IPL 2022. But, Jadeja failed miserably and he had to resign the captaincy mid-way. Dhoni then again took over the responsibility of the team, but then, it was too late.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have retained 18 players and released 7 of them before the IPL 2023 mini-auction. They also released Dwane Bravo, who has announced his retirement from the IPL. Bravo will now be the bowling coach of CSK. The team management has 20.75 crores left with them to purchase 7 players, which includes 2 foreign players. Let us look at the top 3 players who CSK can look to target in the IPL 2023 mini-auction.

SAM CURRAN

Sam Curran was part of the CSK team in 2020 and 2021. He did not participate in the IPL 2022 due to an injury. For the 2 years in which Sam Curran represented CSK, the all-rounder scored 242 runs and took 22 wickets in 23 matches. Sam Curran had an exception T20 World Cup 2022, where he played a vital role in the success of the England team. He was also awarded the man of the tournament.

Sam Curran perfectly fits in the scheme of things for CSK. After the exit of Bravo, Chennai needs an all-rounder who can give much-needed variety to the squad. Sam Curran can bat and is also an exciting all-rounder.

MAYANK AGARWAL

Chennai Super Kings can also target Mayank Agarwal in the IPL 2023 mini-auction. The X captain of Punjab Kings, although did not have a good IPL last year, he is still one of the most promising batters at the top order. He has the ability to go all guns blazing at the top order. Mayank Agarwal, in 107 innings, has accumulated 2327 runs at a strike rate of 134.28.

CSK will like to have someone who can play fearless cricket and give a brisk start to the innings. Mayank Agarwal can be a great proposition for this role. Since he won’t be the captain, he will feel free to express himself and play normal cricket without any worries.

KYLE JAMIESON

If we closely look at the 18 players retained by CSK, we observe that they don’t have any foreign pace bowlers. This is very strange for a team like CSK. It clearly signifies that they will be in search of a pure international pace bowler, who can give company to Deepak Chahar. To fill this slot, they can target the tall pace bowler from New Zealand Kyle Jamieson.

Kyle Jamieson has impressed one and all with his good pace and bounce. He was not part of the IPL 2022. In 2021, Kyle Jamieson took 9 wickets in 9 innings. He is someone who can extract good pace even from slow wickets. This will be an added advantage and will entice the CSK team management to consider him in the upcoming IPL 2023 mini-auction.
