Chennai Super King’s Journey in IPL 2022

There were a lot of expectations from Chennai Super Kings leading up to the IPL 2022, as they were the defending champions. Just before the start of the tournament, surprising news greeted all CSK fans when the team management announced that their veteran captain, MS Dhoni, had relinquished the captaincy and handed it over to Ravindra Jadeja. From that moment, the cricket pundits predicted the downfall of CSK in IPL 2022.

Jadeja, who had almost no experience in leading a t20 squad, was suddenly told to lead the team of veterans. But, Jadeja started feeling the pressure from the first match. He was not able to lead the team in a better way.

Such was his condition on the field that, at times, it was clearly visible that Dhoni was setting the field and taking the decisions, whereas Jadeja was seen protecting the long-off boundary. Jadeja’s captaincy pressure resulted in a massive deterioration in his performance as a bowler and batsman.

The Main Reason For The Poor Performance Of CSK In IPL 2022

The main reason for CSK not getting the desired result has to be attributed to the fact that Jadeja could not lead his team better. In fact, mid-way through the IPL 2022, he stepped down from the captaincy, citing his desire to focus on his bowling. Dhoni was again handed over the captaincy, but it was too late for CSK to recover from there.

Chennai also missed Deepak Chahar in the IPL 2022, as he sustained an injury before the start of the league and was ruled out. It made the bowling line-up inexperienced, and they crumbled in crunch games. Chennai’s regular performers, such as Ruturaj Gaikwad, Bravo, and Rayudu, also did not perform regularly for the franchise in the 15th edition.
