It was a season to forget for David Warner in the VIVO IPL 2021. Firstly, he was axed mid-way from the captaincy. To make things worse, the dynamite opener was not even picked in the playing XI after the first 8 games. He could manage to score just 195 runs in 8 innings.

In the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Warner had a slow start. But, in the last three matches, he returned to form and is the leading run-scorer for Australia with 289 runs in 7 innings, including 3 half-centuries. His strike rate has also improved from 107 in IPL 2021 to 145 in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

Aiden Markram joined Punjab Kings as the replacement for England’s David Malan in the UAE leg. However, he could not impress the franchise owners. He could manage to score only 146 runs in 6 matches. The Sri Lankan pace bowler Wanindu Hasaranga came to the limelight courtesy of his excellent performance during the T20 and ODI series against India. He was later drafted into the RCB squad for the IPL 2021 part 2. A lot of expectations were there from Wanindu Hasaranga. He got to play 2 games and failed to pick a single wicket.
