183 vs Pakistan (2012)

This was undoubtedly Kohli’s best ODI performance, as he destroyed Pakistan’s bowling attack in Dhaka with a record-breaking knock of 183 off 148 balls. Kohli batted at No. 3 after India lost Gautam Gambhir in the first over while chasing a massive score of 330. He played with great assurance and aggressiveness, hitting 22 fours and one six.

As India triumphed by six wickets with more than two overs to spare, he had a 133-run partnership with Sachin Tendulkar and a 172-run stand with Rohit Sharma. Kohli appeared to be in superb shape, achieving his century off 97 deliveries and his 150 off 131 deliveries. Kohli was chosen player of the match for his outstanding performance.

49 vs Pakistan (2016)

Pakistan batted first, but collapsed quickly, scoring only 83 runs. India were 8/3 after chasing 84 runs against Pakistan in the 2016 T20 Asia Cup. Kohli, on the other hand, maintained his cool and anchored the innings. India won by five wickets thanks to his 51-ball 49.

This was the first time the Asia Cup was contested in T20 format, and it was also MS Dhoni’s final multi-nation event. India won the Asia Cup by defeating Bangladesh in the final by an innings and eight wickets.

108 vs Sri Lanka (2012)

Virat Kohli’s period began between the years of 2012 and 2016. He was scoring century at will, and his domineering form continued in the 2012 Asia Cup. In Dhaka, he hit a stunning century against Sri Lanka. After India lost Gautam Gambhir early in the innings, Kohli batted at No. 3 and anchored the batting with a fluent 108 off 120 balls.

However, his performance was overshadowed by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved his 100th international century. This was also Sachin Tendulkar’s final Asia Cup.

136 vs Bangladesh (2014)

It was Virat Kohli’s maiden assignment as captain after MS Dhoni was forced out of the 2014 Asia Cup owing to injury. India lost both openers cheaply while chasing 280. That’s when Virat Kohli stepped up. He and Ajinkya Rahane combined for a double-century and led India to victory. Kohli hit a 122-ball 136 and demonstrated his ‘lead from the front’ mindset for the first time.

This was the only big tournament without regular captain MS Dhoni. However, this experiment was a huge success, as Virat Kohli successfully led the squad and further headed the Indian Cricket team in all three forms in the future. 

122 vs Afghanistan (2022)

It was the knock that the entire world had been anticipating for 1019 days. Before unleashing his rage on Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai, Kohli had not hit an international century in over three years. He hammered 122 off only 61 balls, hitting 12 fours and six sixes.

He became the first Indian to hit a T20I century and also beat his own Asia Cup T20I record for the highest individual score. His innings pushed India to a stunning 232/3 win by 101 runs.
