Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Set To Return for India’s ODI Series in Australia. Former India skippers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are expected to be recalled to the national side for the three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Australia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to announce the squad on Saturday, 4 October 2025.

Since the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year, Rohit and Virat have not represented India in ODIs. Reports suggest that both stars will feature in the ODI squad before they meet Australia on October 19 in Perth, with matches in Adelaide (October 23) and Sydney (October 25) to follow. Their return will be welcome news for fans who have been hoping to see India’s talismans back in action.

Panel Selection Issues

Fitness and workload are major issues in the mix. All-rounder Hardik Pandya is not available for selection due to a quadriceps injury, while wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is still recovering from an injury to his foot. Test captain Shubman Gill will be monitored after playing in the Asia Cup and a Test series against the West Indies. Selecting aged and experienced individuals, including Rohit and Virat, with youngsters, will be key to India’s success.

The ODI Series against Australia is India’s first 50-over games since the Champions Trophy. This will serve as a test for India’s readiness heading into the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. With the additions of Rohit and Kohli, the series has the potential to solidify India’s middle order and also provide some valuable insights into leadership and combinations moving forward.
