IPL 2025 Mega Auction

IPL 2024 Auction: 4 Mumbai Indians Players Likely To Leave Ahead Of Auction. IPL 2024 ended with KKR won the trophy after 10 years by defeating SRH by 8 wickets. The Mumbai Indians’ journey in IPL 2024 was nothing short of a disaster as they succumbed to the Lucknow Super Giants on their home turf. The team, led by Hardik Pandya, fell short of the target of 215 by 18 runs rates. MI’s lacklustre season, culminating in the 10th position on the table— only the second instance in which they have finished an IPL season in this spot.

Former MI captain Rohit Sharma might leave the Mumbai Indians and be a part of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. He was removed from his position as captain before the start of IPL 2024, with Hardik Pandya taking over leadership for the team. The conclusion of that season saw Mumbai Indians finishing at the lowest position on the points table. In all likelihood, Hardik will probably continue to lead the team in IPL 2025.

Many reasons led to MI’s poor performance, and they hope to do better in IPL 2025. With a mega-auction coming up, MI might have a new team. Many players could be released, and others might enter the auction even if MI wants to keep them. Here, we look at three players who might leave Mumbai Indians and join the IPL 2025 mega-auction.

Players Who Can Leave Mumbai Indians and Join IPL 2025 Auction

Rohit Sharma

One of the major departures from Mumbai Indians could be Rohit Sharma. The primary reason for this might be the change in leadership that led to his removal as captain before the IPL 2024. Although he continues to captain Team India in all three formats, he played under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy during the IPL season. This emphasizes that Hardik was not part of MI during IPL 2022 and 2023.

However, the team managed to get him back via trade before IPL 2024. Upon his return, it was evident that he would be captaining the team, and the franchise took everyone by surprise when they made this decision ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction. If Rohit departs from MI, he will be part of the IPL auction later on.

Jasprit Bumrah

In the captaincy decision, MI did not take Jasprit Bumrah into account and opted for Hardik as the captain. Although Bumrah holds the position of vice-captain in the Test team — which could potentially see him stepping up as captain after Rohit — Mumbai Indians might not be the team he leads. But then, they had different plans.

Bumrah has never publicly addressed the issue of his departure, but in a post last year following Hardik Pandya’s return to MI, he dropped a cryptic message. Another possible factor that could lead to Bumrah bidding goodbye to MI is his salary — currently standing at Rs 12 crore. However, if he chooses to enter the auction, he could potentially secure a higher amount.

Suryakumar Yadav

The third cricketer in line is Suryakumar Yadav. MI retained him before the IPL 2022 mega-auction, and his price is set at Rs 8 crore. Should he go under the auction hammer, he could probably fetch double that amount — a just reward for one of the standout T20 batsmen who can single-handedly steer victory in games.

With speculations pointing towards Hardik being the skipper for MI in IPL 2025, it raises doubts on whether Suryakumar will be their top priority pick. But if indeed Suryakumar decides to throw his hat into the IPL auction ring, he could very well be laughing his way to the bank with an amount exceeding Rs 15 crore.

Ishan Kishan

There are several speculative reasons why Ishan Kishan might leave Mumbai Indians and enter the IPL 2025 auction. Financial incentives play a significant role, as Kishan’s rising reputation could command a higher price in an open bidding process. Additionally, he might seek a team where he has a more central role or a preferred batting position, which MI may not consistently provide.

Team performance and prospects are also crucial, as Mumbai Indians already came at the bottom, Kishan might look for a more successful franchise. Personal branding opportunities, coaching preferences, contractual negotiations, and strategic decisions by MI could further influence his decision to explore options in the auction. These factors combined highlight why a talented player like Kishan might consider such a move.
