It is said that if any IPL team has a good auction, half the battle to win the IPL title is already won. Such is the importance of an IPL auction. IPL mega auction takes place every 3 years. Here, we will discuss the details of IPL 2022 mega auction rules:

A total of 590 players will take part in the Mega Auction. Out of 590, 370 are Indian cricketers and 220 are foreigners. This time there are eight categories in the auction price base, 2 crores, 1.5 crores, one crore, 75 lakhs, 50,40,30 & 20 lakhs.

Difference Between IPL 2022 Mega Auction and IPL 2021 Auction Rules

Most cricket fans are unaware of the difference between an IPL auction and an IPL mega auction. A mega auction takes place after every 3 years while IPL regular auction takes place every year as an IPL mini-auction.

These Auctions are held to ensure that teams get an opportunity to get the team balance as well as it’s an opportunity for players, especially Indian uncapped players, and foreign players to enter the IPL.

Each IPL team gets the opportunity to retain a maximum of 4 players by a combination of the RTM and Direct Retention. It should be in combination like a maximum of 3 Indians, a maximum of 2 foreigners. If any franchise retains the maximum number ( 3 or 4) of players, then they will not be able to use RTM.

Schedule for IPL 2022 Auction

There is a fixed schedule for IPL 2022 players’ auction that will be followed for IPL 2022 mega auction. On the first day (12 Feb) of the bidding, the marquee players are put on sale. On the second day, accelerated bidding takes place which ensures that all the remaining players are put under the hammer. This time ten teams will take part in the auction, so it is likely to last for at least 2 days.

IPL 2022 mega auction will take place on 12 and 13th February 2022 in Bengaluru.

Preparation of Teams for IPL Mega Auction 2022

This is called as pre-auction stage. Here, all the team management which includes team owners has a brainstorming session. They have regular 4-5 meetings where they analyze their team and come up with a broad framework about which category of players to focus on in the next auction. This may also include the participation of the current team captain.

Rules for Squad Strength in IPL Auction 2022

As per the rules, a maximum of 25 players is allowed in a single IPL squad. The rule also specifies that each team needs to have a minimum of 18 players. This includes a maximum of 8 international players. This 25 players list includes both capped and uncapped players. This will be followed for IPL 2022 mega auction rules. Although BCCI can change this rule till now it is the same rule.

How to apply for IPL Auction 2022

The IPL governing council has laid down few rules and eligibility criteria for under 19 Indian players to participate in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

These are some points How to apply for IPL Auction

The aspirant should be born on or after the 1st of April 2003. He should be at least 19 years old to participate in the IPL 2022 mega auction.

The player should have at least played one match of list A or first class

The player seeking IPL auction approval should have been registered with the state association.

For the uncapped player who has given up playing domestic cricket, he should seek prior written permission from the BCCI.

The RTM in IPL Auction Rules

The term RTM stands for Right to Match. As per the IPL 2022 mega auction rules, a team can use the RTM card to retain a player at the mega auctions by paying the exact amount to equal the winning bid.

This is a method used by the franchises to retain their key players. However, if a team does not retain a player, then they can use a maximum of three RTMs only.

RTM Cards will not be available to any IPL franchises in IPL 2022 auctions because of two new teams .

IPL 2022 Retention Rules

All 8 IPL franchise has retained players. The 2 new IPL teams ( Gujrat Titans & Lucknow Super Giants ) also choose 3 draft picks from the auction pool.
