IND vs ENG 2024: Day 1 Highlights Of 1st Test – Yashasvi Jaiswal Leads India To 119/1. The first match of the five-game Test series between India vs England commenced on Thursday, January 25th, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The initial day proved to be exceptional in terms of cricket action.

Winning the toss, England captain Ben Stokes chose to bat first, and the team made a magical start with the aggressive play of Zack Crawley (20) and Ben Duckett (35). The duo set a strong foundation, contributing 55 runs for the opening partnership. However, Ravichandran Ashwin took the first wicket of Ben Duckett, triggering a mini-collapse as England found themselves at 60/3. Joe Root (29) and Jonny Bairstow (37) steadied the ship, rescuing England from the early trouble.

After the departure of Root and Bairstow, Captain Ben Stokes assumed control, delivering a magnificent half-century, putting pressure on the Indian bowlers. Stokes scored 70 runs off 88 balls, supported by Rehan Ahmed (13), Tom Hartley (23), and Mark Wood (11). The lower order’s contributions ensured England reached a respectable total of 246 runs.

Day 1 Highlights: England’s Strong Start and India’s Promising Response in Opening Test Clash

R Ashwin shone for India with bowling figures of 3/68, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed three wickets, and Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel took two wickets each, helping India dismiss England within three sessions. In response, India made a strong start in their first innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal aggressively attacked the England spinners, hitting sixes and fours, keeping the bowlers on the back foot. Skipper Rohit Sharma also played well but fell short, getting out for 24 runs to Jack Leach. Shubman Gill then steadied the innings alongside Jaiswal.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the standout performer for India, quickly reached his half-century, providing the team with a solid start. At the end of Day 1, India stood at 119/1, with Jaiswal batting at 76 and Shubman Gill at 14. The hosts are trail by 127 runs and aim to build on their batting performance to take a first-innings lead in the upcoming sessions.
