Ravichandran Ashwin was born in a Tamil family on September 17, 1986, in Chennai. He is one of the most successful bowlers in Test Cricket for India. Off-late, Ashwin has also evolved as a very handy all-rounder. However, when we talk about Ashwin, we always remember him as a calm and composed cricketer.

He doesn’t live a glamorous lifestyle, no tattoos, no fancy kinds of stuff. This is the reason; he is not recognized in Indian Cricket as an effective all-rounder. However, his few performances on foreign soil have been outstanding both as a bowler and also as a lower middle-order batsman.

Ravichandran Ashwin created a name for himself in the shorter version of the game with his street-smart exploits in the IPL, since his Test debut against the West Indies in 2011, Ashwin has made it a habit to pick up wickets, especially in dry and dusty conditions that encourage turn.

He has created a reputation for himself in the shorter formats of the game, particularly in T20 cricket, where his accuracy and shrewdness have helped him establish himself as a reliable bowler. He has filled Harbhajan Singh’s shoes and has established himself as India’s finest bowler on the subcontinent.

In addition to helping Tamil Nadu to victory in the domestic one-day tournament in 2009, Ashwin had a steady season at the domestic level, which earned him a contract with the BCCI. When Harbhajan Singh pulled out of the first two home games against South Africa in early 2010, Ashwin was called in to fill the void. He did not, however, receive the desired India Test cap.

Following his impressive performances for the Chennai franchise in the successive editions of the IPL, he was continuously banging on the door, and an extended opportunity came in June 2010 when India opted to try something new on their tri-series tour to Zimbabwe.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s Captaincy Statistics & IPL Experience

In 2009, Ashwin made his IPL debut with Chennai Super Kings. In 2010 and 2011, he went on to play two consecutive IPL titles with Chennai Super Kings, taking 13 and 20 wickets in each season. He was chosen by Rising Pune Supergiant after Chennai Super Kings was banned for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. However, due to a sports hernia, he missed the 2017 season.

Ashwin was made the captain of Kings XI in the year 2018. He served as the captain of this side in 2018 and 2019. However, his performance as a captain was below-average, with the side losing 16 matches out of 28.

His win percentage in IPL as a captain is just 43. In a match between Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab on March 25, 2019, Ashwin mankaded Jos Butler, reigniting the debate over such dismissals.
