Men in Blue led by Rohit Sharma entered ODI World Cup 2023 as numero uno in not only ODI but in all formats of ICC Team rankings. Team India achieved the top ODI team ranking after they defeated Australia in the 1st ODIs on September 22 at Mohali. Asia Cup 2023 final win against Sri Lanka. They dethroned Arch-rival Pakistan from the no. 1 position.

Pakistan held on to their numero uno position despite not making it to the Asia Cup 2023 Final. Both Men in Blue and Aussies had opportunities to reach the top ODI ranking during the Asia Cup 2023 and the South Africa series. Proteas break the dream of Australia to become No.1 team by beating 3-2 in the ODI series.
