IPL which started way back in the year 2008 has witnessed a combination of some all-time great international superstars like Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne, Andrew Flintoff, Kevin Peterson, to name a few.

The list is endless and so has been their contribution to their respective franchise. IPL since its inception has carried forward the rule of playing a maximum of 4 international players in the playing 11. Here, we discuss the impact of foreign players and their comparison with Indian players.

FOREIGN PLAYERS VS INDIAN PLAYERS IN IPL

Firstly, when we talk about financial factors, foreign players have been quite famous for winning hefts paycheques. Even though in the majority of the year’s Indian players have got great deals (Yuvraj twice, Dinesh Karthik, Jaidev Unadkat, Pawan Negi, etc) which is mainly due to the rule of a maximum of 4 foreign players in playing x1 as discussed above.

Hence the owners do not want to invest too much in too many foreigners. If any franchise opts to invest a good amount in good local Indian players, then their chances of playing in almost all the matches increase manifold.

Also If any foreign player is an impact player then he certainly finds a place among the 4 foreign players in playing x1. Many players like AB Devilliers, Pollard, Rabada, Ben Stokes, etc which most certainly feature among 4 international slots, then the price of that player will eventually be high.

With the rules inclined more towards Indian players which is fair enough since it is an Indian league, it is unfair to directly compare their salary. Hence for top foreign players, IPL is undoubtedly a good opportunity to make huge money and so is the case with quality Indian players who have multiple skills and they add more value to their team.

If we look closely, we realize one thing that overseas players have all-rounder’s skills which is far better than most of the domestic Indian players. Only players playing for India at the international level have been a hot property to buy at the IPL auctions.

Overseas players usually exhibit their talent at leagues like Big Bash League and become a sensation in India. But the sad irony is that our domestic players which play at Vijay Hazare Trophy are very less viewed in India. IPL teams are always in a hunt for players with authentic skills, which a majority of Indian players lack.

Finally talking about the most important aspect which IPL brings with it is interpersonal skills. IPL being such a big stage provides a brilliant platform for foreign players to socialize with Indian players and vice versa. No one ever in their dreams might have pondered upon the thought about Harbhajan and Symonds sharing HI fives two years after the Monkey-gate incident!! Such has been the magic of IPL.

Also playing in India has got players like AB, Maxwell, Gayle, Pollard, and many others immense fan following in India. The crowd chanting “AB AB” even though he was smacking our own bowlers is courtesy IPL only. IPL no doubt has helped foreign

players immensely but at the same time, it has equally helped our Indian players too. The amount of impact it has on Indian players is huge. Can Avesh Khan, Devdutt Padikkal, Siraj, Ruturaj even dream of being mentored by AB and Virat Kohli?
