The company that was founded in Massachusetts, USA, has now become arguably one of the most-watched sports entertainment shows in the World. And WWE’s ruthless strategy of globalizing its brand is one that teaches many lessons. 

WWE used the technique of having representation of as many countries in the world as possible. This was sole because they wanted to target the audience of those nations. The introduction of Tian Bing and Xia Li, for example, was WWE’s way of capturing the Chinese audience.

For the same reason, Vince McMahon has introduced many Indian wrestlers to the WWE as well in an attempt to capture the massive audience of India. And it would be right to say that they did their job pretty well.

1. Gama Singh/Gardowar Singh

Gama Singh a.k.a Gardowar Singh Sahota was the first Indian WWE wrestler. He was born in East Punjab on 8th December 1954 but did not live in India for very long. He moved to Canada and took up Canadian citizenship.  Garwodhar Singh is the uncle of former WWE World Champion Jinder Mahal and his son has also become an entertainment wrestler by the alias of Gama Singh Jr.

2. Tiger Ali Singh

Tiger Ali Singh was one of the first Indian wrestlers to step foot on a WWE ring, long before the Great Khali. In fact, according to stats, he can be considered to be the second WWE wrestler of Indian origin after Gama. Ali made his WWE debut in 1997. 

He was a Canadian-Indian and was playing the role of a billionaire in WWE. 

Unfortunately, his career was short-lived. He failed to captivate the audience and his shot to fame was a mere Royal Rumble appearance in Royal Rumble 1999. He was sent to Puerto Rico to practice his skills but it, unfortunately, marked the end of his career after a tragic injury.

3. Jinder Mahal 

Jinder Mahal is the most successful Indian WWE wrestler of this decade. He has a World Championship and the United States Championship to his name and is probably the most decorated Indian wrestler in the WWE after the Great Khali. Jinder Mahal’s first few days in the WWE were not that great. He worked as comic relief and was thus released by WWE in 2014. 

However, they resigned him in 2016 and his career has been on the up ever since. He won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 2017 Backlash by defeating Randy Orton. In Wrestlemania 34 (2018), he won the United States Championship.

4. The Great Khali 

The Great Khali is undoubtedly the greatest Indian WWE wrestler in the history of the company. He made his debut in 2006 with a bang by completely dismantling The Undertaker, who at that time, was considered to be the strongest WWE star. 

He has had a number of interesting rivalries with many other famous WWE stars over the years but has only 1 WWE title. Khali was later used as a comedic character in the WWE and his character was gradually ruined.

5. The Singh Brothers

The Singh Brothers were introduced in the WWE as the apprentice duo of Jinder Mahal. Before that, however, they were known as the Bollywood Boyz. The two brothers Gurv and Hurv have been given the names Sunil Singh and Samir Singh in WWE and they are Tag Team partners. They played in the Cruiserweight division. 

6. Saurav Gurjar 

Saurav Gurjar is a former Kickboxing player. He signed for WWE in 2018 and currently plays in NXT under the alias of Sanga. He used to play the role of Bheem in the famous TV serial Mahabharat.

7. Akam

Adam was one of the most successful Indian wrestlers in WWE’s NXT. He made his NXT debut in 2015 and in 2016 he was teamed up with Rezar. He has won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classics, NXT Tag Team Championship, and RAW Tag Team Championship. 

8. Kavita Devi

Kavita Devi was a part of The Great Khali’s Indian Wrestling Promotion and was picked up by WWE from there. She became the first-ever female Indian wrestler in WWE. Unfortunately, she was injured in 2019 and has been out of WWE ever since. 

9. Rinku Singh Rajput

Rinku Singh Rajput a.k.a Veer has one of the brightest futures among the current roster of Indian wrestlers in the WWE. He made his debut through NXT in 2018 and was teamed up with Sourav Gurjar and Jinder Mahal later. 

However, constant injuries have stopped him from performing well. 

10. Dilsher Shanky 

Dilsher Shanky is another wrestler from the Great Khali’s Indian Wrestling promotion company who was picked up by WWE. He is set to appear WWE Superstar Spectacle India special event.

He had been once paired with Jinder Mahal and Veer in the Raw. Currently, he is on the Smackdown roster.
