HBL PSL 2024: All 6 Franchises Announce Player Retention List For PSL 9. All six franchises have completed their trades and player retentions in preparation for the HBL PSL Player Draft 2024, scheduled for December 13 at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. Each franchise was allowed a maximum of eight retentions. Except for Multan Sultans, who retained seven players, all franchises utilized their full quota of retentions.

Lahore Qalandars, the reigning champions and winners of the last two seasons, chose to retain their captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, in the Platinum category. In the Diamond category, the team named Haris Rauf as its brand ambassador. ICC sixth-ranked T20I all-rounder, Sikandar Raza secured retention in the Gold category. While second-ranked T20I bowler Rashid Khan was retained in the Silver category albeit with potential concerns about his participation due to injury. Following a successful relegation request, Mirza Tahir Baig has been retained in the Silver category.

Islamabad United, the two-time champions, have retained ICC’s eighth-ranked T20I all-rounder, Shadab Khan, and executed a successful trade to acquire Naseem Shah in the Platinum category. Nevertheless, Having moved from Karachi Kings to Islamabad United and now placed in the Diamond category, Imad Wasim has been appointed as the team’s Mentor. In the Gold category, Faheem Ashraf has assumed the role of Brand Ambassador. After successfully submitting a relegation request, the team has retained Rumman Raees in the Silver category.

Multan Sultans have retained their captain, Mohammad Rizwan, who is ICC’s second-ranked T20I batter, in the Platinum category. Iftikhar Ahmed, secured through a successful trade with Quetta Gladiators, is Multan’s other Platinum player. However, The HBL PSL 2023 player of the tournament, Ihsanullah, has been appointed the team’s Brand Ambassador and retained in the Silver category. Also, Faisal Akram, acquired through a successful trade with Karachi Kings, has been retained in the Emerging category.

Karachi Kings have retained Shan Masood and Shoaib Malik in the Gold category. Shan Masood was part of a trade that involved left-arm wrist-spinner Faisal Akram before the trade window closed. Shan has also been named the Brand Ambassador, while Malik takes on the role of team Mentor. Mir Hamza has been retained in the Silver category following a successful relegation request.

Quetta Gladiators have retained the world’s fifth-ranked T20I batter Rilee Rossouw in the Platinum category and the third-ranked T20I bowler, Wanindu Hasaranga, in Diamond. However, Mohammad Wasim Jnr and Abrar Ahmed retained through a successful trade, are retained in the Diamond and Gold categories, respectively. Jason Roy, the record holder for the highest individual score in HBL PSL history, has also been retained in Diamond. Sarfaraz Ahmed has been appointed as Quetta Gladiators’ Brand Ambassador and retained in the Gold category.

Peshawar Zalmi has retained Babar Azam, the most successful batter in HBL PSL history. Currently ranked No. 4 in the ICC T20I rankings, in the Platinum category, alongside West Indies power-hitter Rovman Powell. Retained in the Gold category. Also, Mohammad Haris has also been designated as the Brand Ambassador.

After the finalization of all trades and retentions. Multan Sultans will have the first pick in the first round of the Platinum category. The trades involving Iftikhar Ahmed and Rilee Rossouw between Multan and Quetta led to this arrangement. Also, the movement of Naseem Shah to Islamabad United resulted in an exchange of Islamabad United’s first-round Platinum pick with Quetta Gladiator’s third-round Platinum pick.

Furthermore, Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators must select a local player in the Platinum category. Following precedent each of the six teams. Will have a Right to Match Card allowing them to pick any player released from their roster during the draft.

HBL PSL 2024 witnessed a notable trade between Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans. Iftikhar Ahmad has moved to Multan Sultans, while Rilee Rossouw has joined Quetta Gladiators. This strategic exchange aims to enhance the strengths of both squads, introducing new skills and perspectives to their rosters.

In a significant trade, Islamabad United and Karachi Kings have made a notable player exchange. Imad Wasim, previously with Karachi Kings, will poised to join Islamabad United for PSL 2024, signalling a shift in team allegiance. In return, Karachi Kings have secured the services of Hassan Ali, enhancing their lineup with his skill and experience.

In a highly anticipated trade before Pakistan Super League 2024, Naseem Shah has transitioned from Quetta Gladiators to Islamabad United. The young pacer, a consistent presence in the Pakistan national team, faced setbacks, missing the latter part of the Asia Cup and the entire ICC World Cup 2023 due to a shoulder injury. However, As part of the trade, leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed and fast bowler Mohammad Wasim Jr have moved to Quetta Gladiators from Islamabad United.

Shan Masood’s transition to Karachi Kings prompted an exchange where Karachi Kings swapped their first-round Silver pick for Multan Sultan’s fourth-round Silver pick. Moreover, Imad Wasim’s move to Islamabad United led to the exchange of Islamabad’s first-round Silver pick with Karachi’s second-round Silver pick.
