BCCI, the governing body of the world’s biggest cricket league, IPL, is gearing up to add two new teams ahead of the mega auction scheduled early next year. If reports are to be believed, we may see the announcement of two new teams before the start of IPL 2021 phase 2 in the UAE. Brief Info About IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

2022 will be a year that will witness the mega auction for IPL. For those unaware, the IPL mega auction is held every three years. This is different than the regular auction. In the IPL mega auction, each team can retain a maximum of 3 players from the original squad.

They can also use the Right to Match (RTM) card to retain two more players. All the rest players go into the auction pool. This allows all the franchises to purchase their best players from the auction pool.

Possible Two New Teams Of IPL

According to some sources, Ahmedabad and Lucknow can be the two new teams who will get approval from BCCI. We all are aware of Motera Stadium (renamed as Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium), which has been renovated and built to be the biggest cricket stadium.

In IPL 2021, few games were also held here. So, it is almost certain that Ahmedabad will be one of the new franchises.

Similarly, Lucknow is also in the race for the second new team. A new International cricket stadium is also built here. So these two cities can get a go-ahead.

More Matches Mean More Workload On Teams

The addition of two new teams from IPL 2022 will bring new challenges for BCCI. We expect a total of around 94 matches to be played between the 10 teams. This will result in an excessive workload for the players. It is also to be kept in mind that the ICC T20 cricket world cup will be held in Australia next year. So, it will be very challenging for the players to manage their workload.

BCCI will also have to look at a bigger IPL window. There might even be concerns of IPL clashing with the International cricket calendar. All these aspects will have to be taken care which will be a humongous task.

The Addition Of Two new teams will make BCCI cash-rich

Ever since the inception of IPL, BCCI has raised flags of success on the economic front. It is expected that each new team will have a base price of around 1500 crores. After the auction, it may reach close to 2000 crore. This means approximately 4,000 crores additional amount will go into the bags of BCCI. This is a considerable amount.

However, considering the economic crisis due to Covid, These figures may change at the time of auction. According to the latest data, Mumbai Indians is the richest IPL franchise with an estimated worth of close to 2750 crores, followed by CSK with around 2200 crores.
