In their final match of the Indian Premier League 2024, the Punjab Kings will be led by youngster Jitesh Sharma against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Punjab Kings are forced to deploy their third captain of the season, Jitesh Sharma, following the absences of Shikhar Dhawan and Sam Curran. Despite flashes of brilliance from Ashutosh Sharma, Shashank Singh, and Harshal Patel, PBKS’s season has been a disappointment.

Previously, in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, Sam Curran captained the PBKS. However, with Dhawan out of IPL 2024 and Curran away on national duty for a four-match T20 series against Pakistan before the upcoming ICC event kicking off in June, the captaincy falls to Sharma. Jitesh Sharma will be the 16th Captain for PBKS in the cash-rich league

The Kings have played 13 matches so far, winning five and losing eight. They currently sit in ninth position, but a win with a good Net Run Rate (NRR) could see them leapfrog the Gujarat Titans into eighth place. Pat Cummins’ team needs a win against PBKS in their last league game to stay in contention for a top-two finish. Jitesh addressed the media before the SRH clash, discussing both PBKS’ IPL 2024 season and their approach for the final game.

“Punjab Kings is famous for fearless cricket, and we will be more fearless in the last game. Everyone will play with correct intent, and we will be playing to win,” Jitesh stated.
