Asia Cup 2023: Afghanistan Announces 17-member Squad For The Tournament. Afghanistan will start its Asia Cup 2023 campaign against Bangladesh on September 03 at Lahore. They will play their 2nd group stage match against host Sri Lanka on Sep 5 at Lahore. Today Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announces a 17-member squad for Asia Cup 2023. Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead the squad in the tournament.

The Afghani selection committee has recalled experienced all-rounder Karim Janat. Azmatullah Omarzai, who recently suffered an injury during the Pakistan 3-match ODI series excluded from the squad.

The Afghanistan squad also sees the return of veteran batsman Najibullah Zadran, who was ruled out of the recently concluded ODI series with Pakistan due to injury. Rahmat Shah, Najibullah Zadran, and Mohammad Nabi will bat in the middle order alongside captain Hashmatullah Shahidi.

Afghanistan recently whitewashed by Pakistan in the 3-match ODI series at Sri Lanka. Pakistan’s team not only won the series but they dethroned Australia from ICC Men’s ODIs no 1 team. Afghanistan ranked 9th in the ICC ODI teams ranking list.
