If we focus on the brand value rankings, which are calculated from the value of the teams to sponsorship and prize money, then the Indian Premier League (IPL) is ranked 18th on the list. If we talk about the top 50 richest teams in a sports league, there isn’t a single cricket team on the list. It is dominated mostly by a handful of super-rich sports which include basketball, football, baseball, rugby, etc.

It wouldn’t be fair to compare these teams to any IPL cricket team. The reason is that all these teams have been present for many decades, but IPL is just 13 years old. Out of the ten richest teams in the world, for example, the youngest (New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys) were founded way back in the year 1959.

The 50th ranked team on this list, which is the last rank is valued under $2 billion, compared to the $60 to $95 million value of IPL teams. However, if they continue getting good sponsorship and keep getting big players, they can jump into the top 50 teams very soon.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the fastest-growing leagues on the list of the top 20 richest sports leagues across the globe. It is due to an increase in TV sponsorship rights, brand endorsements, etc.

If it continues to grow at the present rate, then by the time it is as old as the English Premier League (EPL) which is 28 years old, it could easily be one of the top 5 richest Leagues in the world. The future looks bright for the IPL in years to come. We hope this cricket league continues to prosper.
