From Virat Kohli To Pat Cummins, 5 Players Who Could Win Player Of The Tournament Award In IPL 2024. The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League is expected to kick off on March 22, 2023, and last until the end of May. The hype of the tournament has been at an all-time high ever since the auction, which was held on December 19, 2024, featured some record-breaking transactions that shocked the world.

Kolkata Knight Riders bought Mitchell Starc for ₹24.75 crore and Sunrisers Hyderabad bought Pat Cummins for ₹20.5 crore. With this, they became two of the costliest players in the history of the Indian Premier League. The expectations from these players and the league overall have thus been extremely heightened this year.

In this article, we shall talk about five such players who can stand apart from the rest in the 2024 Indian Premier League and thus win the player of the tournament award.

5. Pat Cummins

As mentioned earlier, Pat Cummins has been bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad this year for a whopping prize of  ₹20.5 crore, making him the second-costliest player in the tournament’s history. His expectations are very high and the Australian captain is expected to live up to those expectations.

Pat Cummins performed incredibly well in the ODI World Cup 2023 in India, both with the ball and the bat, and that suggests that he will do the same in the IPL 2024 as well. Although he was not able to play a lot of matches in the last two seasons of IPL, Cummins has a good overall tally in the tournament. In 42 matches, he has scored 1357 runs and taken 45 wickets.

4. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has recently returned to form and he performed well in the 2023 ODI World Cup as well. Although he was criticized by some for maintaining a low run rate, he was the highest run-scorer in the tournament, and he will adapt to T20 conditions when the IPL starts.

Kohli’s accolades in the IPL need not be mentioned. He is the highest run scorer ever in the tournament and at his peak, his performance was unmatched. He has scored 7,263 runs in 237 matches and he scored 973 runs in the IPL 2016, which is the highest number of runs scored by any player in an IPL season.

3. Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh is perhaps the best Indian finisher right now and his batting consistency can not be questioned. He saved Kolkata Knight Riders multiple times last season, and since making his debut for the Indian national team, he has proved his mettle on the international stage as well.

The 26-year-old is one of the main players for the Kolkata Knight Riders right now. Last year, he scored 474 runs in 14 matches and was the highest run scorer on his team. Having achieved this as a finisher tells the story of KKR’s batting lineup and Rinku’s performance.

2. Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami was the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2023 and recently, he was also the highest wicket-taker in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He was not a part of India’s playing XI in the World Cup but after getting a chance, he impressed everyone with his performance instantly. He picked up 24 wickets in the World Cup and had three 5-wicket hauls, with the best figure of 7/57.

He has played 110 matches in the IPL to date and taken 127 wickets. Last year, i.e., in IPL 2023, he took 28 wickets in 17 matches to win the purple cap. He might become the player of the tournament this season.
