BCCI has started the preparation to host IPL 2021 remaining matches in the UAE. After formally announcing UAE as the country to host IPL 2021 remaining 31 games, the top brass of BCCI, including the president Saurav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah are currently in Dubai to talk about the logistic issues related to IPL. According to a few trusted sources, BCCI is planning to host 31 matches in 25 days.
Expected changes in the schedule
It is expected that IPL 2021 UAE leg will commence on 17h September and will end on 11th October. As a result, eight to ten doubleheaders will be held to finish the remaining 31 matches on time. Since ICC t20 cricket world cup may also be held in UAE, BCCI plans to keep the last few league matches and the playoff in one stadium only. This will allow ICC to prepare the other two stadiums for the world cup. The three stadiums in UAE will be Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai.
If ICC T20 cricket world cup shifts to the UAE, BCCI will have to hand over the pitches to ICC on 1st October. However, as things stand, BCCI has got informal permission from ICC to hold the last few IPL matches in one stadium. Therefore, Dubai will most likely host the last few league matches and playoff. This will help ICC to arrange the other stadiums from 1st October.
What will be the match timings?
It is expected that BCCI will follow the same schedule as was followed the last year. In such a situation, the single-day matches will start from 7.30 pm. In doubleheaders, the day match will start from 3.30 pm followed by the night match from 7.30 pm.
When will the franchises leave for UAE?
The IPL franchises are yet to get detailed information regarding the schedule they need to follow. It is expected that BCCI will come up with all the details very soon. They are currently in talks with UAE and ECB boards.
Meanwhile, the IPL franchises are having initial discussions with UAE hotels. It is learned that the UAE hotel chains are demanding exorbitant hotel charges. One of the prime agendas of BCCI top brass in UAE is to have a detailed discussion regarding some hotel concessions.
