Asia Cup 2023 BCCI vs PCB Row: Team India To Play Matches In UAE. Asia Cup 2023 between six teams is scheduled to be held in September this year in Pakistan. This tournament will act as a preparation for ODI World Cup 2023 and will consist of 13 One-Day international games. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are already qualified for Asia Cup as they are ICC full members; whereas the sixth team will be decided after Men’s Premier Cup scheduled to be hosted in Nepal.

However, this tournament has been amid controversy in the last few months due to the tussle between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Pakistan is the official host of the Asia Cup this year, however, BCCI denied to travel Pakistan for the tournament due to strained relations between both countries.

Last year BCCI secretary Jay Shah who is also the president of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) said that team India will not travel to Pakistan as the Indian government will not permit that. In reply, the PCB chairman Najam Sethi threatened to pull out of the ODI World Cup 2023 , scheduled to be held later this year in India.

PCB wishes to host the tournament considering they have successfully hosted top international teams bilateral tournaments, including New Zealand, England and Australia in the past year.

Asia Cup 2023 Compromise Formula

Due to this conflict between both boards, Asia Cup 2023 was uncertain to go ahead. However now, according to PTI, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) figured out a solution and proposed that India will play their games in UAE; whereas other teams can play their matches in Pakistan. If India came across Pakistan in the semi-final or final, then the game will be played in UAE. As per reports, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may agree with this compromise.

Sri Lanka is the defending champions of the Asia Cup as they won T20 Asia Cup 2022 last year by defeating Pakistan by 23 runs in Dubai international stadium. India couldn’t qualify for the finals of the tournament last year, so they will eager to list Asia Cup 2023.
