Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli To Return In Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be back to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 and are expected to play a total of three matches each. This comes after the BCCI urged centrally contracted players to play domestic cricket in preparation for a busy international schedule.

Domestic Return

Rohit for Mumbai and Kohli for Delhi will use the tournament to gain match fitness and sharpen their form before the upcoming international matches. The Vijay Hazare Trophy provides an ideal gap between the conclusion of the India-South Africa ODI series on December 6 and the start of the India-New Zealand ODI series on January 11.

A BCCI source stated that although both players would play three matches, this number could rise depending on fitness and workload management. Rohit is likely to play against Sikkim, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh, while Kohli may play against Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Saurashtra.

For Kohli, this marks the long-awaited return to List A cricket, while Rohit played in the 2018 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Both are expected to add stability to their respective teams and allow selectors to monitor their form, as well as their fitness, leading into the ODI series with New Zealand.

This move is also seen as a strategic maneuver to provide stability to India’s ODI plans in the lead-up to the 2027 World Cup. Their performance in the limited matches will be vital to both the success of the team and their own progress towards international cricket. Their fans will be delighted to see the two legends back on the field, reinforcing their dominance and continuing to mentor younger players in the domestic arena.
