Pakistan Super League 2024: Catherine Dalton Becomes First Female Coach In PSL History By Joining Multan Sultans. Ireland’s Catherine Dalton, at the age of 30, has made history by becoming the first female coach in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). She has been appointed as the fast bowling coach for the Multan Sultans team. This marks not only the first example of a female coach in PSL but also the first time a woman has held the role of a fast bowling coach in high-level men’s cricket.

Born in UK, Catherine Dalton took Irish citizenship in 2015. She later represented Ireland in four ODIs and four T20 matches. Before her coaching role, she visited Pakistan twice and worked with multiple fast bowlers, including Mohammad Ilyas, Sameen Gul, Arshad Iqbal, and several under-19 players.

Multan Sultans, a PSL cricket team hailing from Multan, Punjab, was formed in 2017. Sporting blue and gold, they call the Multan Cricket Stadium their home. They won a PSL title in 2021, the team remains a competitive mix of local and international talent. With an ardent fan following, the Multan Sultans continue to play a vital role in the electrifying PSL cricket stage.

Deepak Chahar Is Mentored By Catherine Dalton

Dalton, an ECB-certified Level 3 Advanced Coach, has a rich coaching background. She has served in coaching roles at the national fast-bowling academy in the UK and the Ultimate Pace Foundation in India, where she had the chance to work with notable cricketers like Deepak Chahar. Further, Dalton held the position of assistant head coach at the UK-based National Fast-Bowling Academy, collaborating with Ian Pont and Andre Nel.

Dalton described her excitement about officially joining the Multan Sultans franchise in the PSL after having worked with some of their players in Pakistan during two previous visits. She realized the importance of being a female fast-bowling coach in a prominent men’s T20 franchise, expressing her humility and enthusiasm to contribute positively on various fronts.

Ali Tareen, Had Great Confidence In Catherine Dalton’s Abilities

Ali Tareen, the owner of Multan Sultans in the PSL, spoke his thoughts on Catherine Dalton’s historic signing. Tareen noted that Dalton has played a crucial role in the franchise’s player growth program over the past five years. Having closely observed her work, he has developed a deep sense of trust in her ability to effectively mentor young players and facilitate their personal growth.

Tareen came to an end by saying, “Catherine has played a vital role in our player growth program for nearly five years. I’ve witnessed first hand the impact on players’ improvement. I had full assurance that she would eventually step into the role of a high-level fast-bowling coach, and I’m delighted that her first opportunity has come with the Sultans.

As the Pakistan Super League has been officially planned to start from February 8th to March 24th, 2024, the Multan Sultans are eagerly getting ready for another thrilling season, with Catherine Dalton as their fast-bowling coach. They are assured of creating history in the empire of cricket coaching.
