After four years, these two old rivals face each other in the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. This is Australia’s second consecutive World Cup 2023 defeat.

Australia won the toss and chose South Africa to bat first. South Africa batted first and got off to a flying start. Quinton Decock earned his second consecutive century in this game. He had a 108-run partnership for the first wicket with Captain Bavuma. Aside from Decock, Markram also hit a half-century. Australia arrived and dropped to their knees. They lost both of their openers on 27 runs after a poor start.  They were unable to recover after that, losing wickets at regular intervals. Though Marnus Labuschagne was partnered with Mitchell Starc for a time, this collaboration had little effect. They went all out for 177 runs and lost the match by 134 runs.

The main cause for Australia’s defeat today was errors and dropped catches. Australia missed six simple catches and handed away far too many extras. Though there were a few controversial rulings, they couldn’t save Australia, and this is the first time in 27 years that great Australia has lost its first two World Cup matches.
