India vs England Test Series Renamed as Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy. BCCI and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced to change in the name of the traditionally held England vs India Test series in England. Formerly known as the Pataudi Trophy, the series shall now be contested for the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy after the two game legends named Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson.
The motive behind the renaming is to recognise the immense contribution of Tendulkar. He is the highest scorer for India in Test cricket. Anderson is the top wicket-taker in England. Tendulkar performed at his peak for over twenty years and amassed 15,921 Test runs. Anderson has been the backbone of England’s bowling attack, with 600 wickets and above in Test cricket.
The first series to be contested for the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy will begin on June 20, 2025, at Headingley, Leeds. England and India will play a five-match Test series. The series will form part of the 2025–2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle. England will be under the captaincy of Ben Stokes, while Shubman Gill will lead the Indian side.

This renaming came about after discussions between the ECB and the BCCI concerning players who have significantly contributed to cricket in both countries. The Pataudi Trophy was instituted in 2007 to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s first Test match in 1932. The trophy was named for the Pataudi family. With Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi having played for both England and India, as well as his son, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.
