IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant Breaks Viv Richards’ Record for Most Test Sixes Against England: Rishabh Pant has made history by breaking one of the most famous records in Test cricket. On Day 3 of the ongoing third Test match of the series against England at Lord’s, Pant hit his 36th six against England to break the record previously held by the great Viv Richards, who hit 34 sixes.
Power-Hitting Brilliance Despite Injury
Pant completed this achievement with an incredible six on Ben Stokes over deep mid-wicket in the 59th over of India’s first innings. Pant scored a crucial 74 off 112 balls with a heavily bandaged finger due to injury, as he played a key role in a 141-run partnership with KL Rahul. His power-hitting and reckless stroke-play proved, once again, why he remains one of the most dangerous Test batters in world cricket today.
This record is even more mind-boggling, as Pant has reached this milestone in only 15 tests against England, whereas Viv Richards established the previous record in 28 matches. Pant’s second six in the innings, off Shoaib Bashir, took him to 36 sixes.
With this innings, Pant also equaled MS Dhoni’s record for the most 50+ scores (8) by an Indian wicketkeeper in England, while doing so in fewer innings. He now holds the record for most sixes by a batter in Tests vs. England, which is a reminder of how his legend is growing in red-ball cricket.
