IND vs ENG 2nd Test Day 1 Highlights: Shubman Gill’s Century, India 310/5 At Stumps. After a disappointing defeat in the 1st Test at Leeds, India made a trio of significant changes for the 2nd Test at Edgbaston, looking to regain momentum in the five-match series. Jasprit Bumrah, who led the bowling attack in a gripping opening Test, was rested due to workload management, opening up a debut for pacer Akash Deep. Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy were also named in the side. England captain Ben Stokes won the toss. It looked like a great decision when KL Rahul fell to Chris Woakes early on.

Gill Leads the Fightback After Early Setback

India was in early trouble, but opener Yashasvi Jaiswal once again impressed with a fluent 87 from 122 balls, playing aggressive shots on both sides of the field. Just when he had settled in to make a substantial hundred, he was declared leg-before-wicket by Ben Stokes.

On the other end, though, Captain Shubman Gill stood firm and showed considerable maturity for his age. He produced collaborations with the middle order and made a gritty, unbeaten hundred—his second hundred in the series. Gill ended the day on 114*. At the end of Day 1, India was in a strong position at 310/5.

England’s bowlers put in a lot of effort, with Chris Woakes (2/59) at the forefront. Both Shoaib Bashir and Brydon Carse bowled well initially to put pressure on the Indian team. But dropped catches in the field and a controversial ball change did not help England’s frustration. Rishabh Pant managed to make a valuable score of 25, and Ravindra Jadeja ended Day 1 with 41 runs unbeaten. India will aim to secure a commanding first innings total on Day 2 to regain the pressure back on the home side.
