Barcelona’s Pedri Suffers Injury Setback, Withdraws From Spain Squad. Barcelona’s star midfielder Pedri has officially withdrawn from Luis de la Fuente’s squad as confirmed by Spain after he experienced an injury setback. The midfielder was set to make a comeback against Real Madrid this weekend. However, he will now need more time to recover on the sidelines.

Reports indicate that Pedri was unable to complete a training session on Friday and will require several additional weeks to recover. Even though Spain’s new boss called up Pedri, alongside Alejandro Balde and Gavi, for fixtures against Norway and Scotland, he will miss both matches.

After the international break, Barcelona hopes that Pedri will return to the pitch. The team will resume play against Elche and then play Real Madrid again in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final.

The club has received its second setback this week with Pedri’s injury. Ousmane Dembele’s recovery is also taking longer than expected, and there is still no clear date for the Frenchman’s return to action.

Pedri’s Injury Setback Adds To Barcelona’s Complications

Upon stepping onto the training pitch, the Tenerife native immediately noticed a different sensation in his right leg, which did not respond as expected and forced him to stop.

Although more accurate medical tests are still needed, it is apparent that Pedri’s condition has worsened. He will have to take a slow approach to his recovery and continue with specific treatment during the break. As a result, he is already ruled out for the return leg against Elche on April 1 and is a serious doubt for the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final on April 5.

Pedri will not be pushed to run until he has fully recovered. The team will work to help him get back to 100% before the second leg of the Copa del Rey. If he is not fit for the match, he will continue to work and support the team in the final stretch of the league with the hope of advancing to the final of the Copa Del Rey or La Copa on May 6.

Xavi has been using the formula of four midfielders and there are no indications that he will make any changes. Kessie will replace Pedri, while Gavi will stay on the left flank.
