Barcelona Reclaiming La Liga Title After 2018-19. FC Barcelona clinch their first La Liga title since 2018-19 with four games left. They sealed the win with a stylish victory against city rivals Espanyol. They dominated the match and were up 3-0 at halftime. Robert Lewandowski scored his 20th league goal of the season, followed by Alejandro Balde who doubled their lead at just 19 years old. Lewandowski added another goal before Jules Kounde headed in to make it 4-0.

Espanyol reduced the deficit with goals from Javier Puado and Joselu, but they still face a precarious chance of escaping relegation. Barcelona has 85 points, comfortably ahead of their closest rivals Real Madrid by 14 points, with only 12 left to contest.

La Liga title 2023 is FC Barcelona’s first championship win since the departure of their legendary Argentine player Lionel Messi in August 2021 and their first title under manager Xavi Hernandez, who took over in November 2021.

Meanwhile, Espanyol faces a potential second relegation from La Liga within four seasons after suffering their ninth defeat in eleven matches. With only four games remaining, Espanyol sits four points adrift of safety and must overcome a daunting challenge to secure their top-flight status.

Xavi’s Season: Barcelona Triumphs in La Liga

After the game ended, Barcelona’s players celebrated. However, the trophy presentation had to be postponed because some Espanyol fans invaded the pitch. Despite trailing Real Madrid by three points and experiencing disappointment in the Champions League group stage, Xavi – a former Barcelona player with eight La Liga titles – successfully delivered in his first full season as manager.

The night was emotional for Captain Sergio Busquets, who confirmed his departure from Barcelona after 18 years with the club. This victory marks his ninth league title with the team. Also, emerging talents Balde and Kounde scored their first La Liga goals while playing for Barcelona.

Barcelona is moving from the Nou Camp next season because of stadium redevelopment. However, fans can celebrate the club’s first major trophy since the 2020-21 season during the final two home games against Real Sociedad and Mallorca on May 28th.
