Kohli And Shastri In Favor Of Best Of 3 Matches For ICC World Test Championship Final

Head coach Ravi Shastri feels that the ICC test Championship final should be a three-match series. All the test-playing nations toil hard for 2.5 years to reach the finals. So, it becomes relevant that a proper finale should be held so that both the teams get a chance to fight back. Ravi Shastri feels that this will be a tough thing to do, considering the busy ICC schedule. But the three-match final can be a possibility by curtailing few test matches and other ODI games.

“I think, in the long run, if they want to persist with this Test championship, a best of three final would be ideal,” Shastri said. “A three-match series as a culmination of two-and-a-half years of hard work should be ideal. Going forward, the best of three final would be the need of the hour, but we’ve got to finish it as quickly as possible because of the FTP that will start all over again.

Virat Kohli also agreed with this three-match test series concept. Both the teams have played exceptional cricket over the last 2.5 years leading up to the final. A bad session or a bad day can ruin the chance of any team to win the final. All the efforts and hard work leading up to the finale become almost zero. But if the final becomes a three-test series, then even if the team loses one test, they will still have two more tests to bounce back.

On being asked the question regarding New Zealand termed as the favorites due to the fact that they are playing two-match test series against England, Virat Kohli dismissed this theory. He said that conditions would be the same for both sides. India toured Australia in difficult conditions. They still won the last two test series. So, it is all about the mindset.

“I think the hunger and desire are there to play the final. We don’t have any issues even with four practice sessions heading into the game. As a team, we’re absolutely sure what we need to do. We’ve all played in England before this as well. The captain was quoted while addressing the media.
