WPL 2023 GG vs DC: Delhi Capitals Registered Splendid Victory Over Gujarat Giants. Today Gujarat Giants locked horns with Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Giants are ranked fourth in the WPL 2023 points table with one win and two losses; whereas Delhi is placed in second position in the points table with two wins and one loss.

Giants took a surprising call of removing Player of the Match of the previous game, Sophia Dunkley from the playing XI to include Laura Wolvaardt, who in addition to their squad in place of Beth Mooney.

Marizanne Kapp Registered Best Bowling Figures Of The WPL 2023

Gujarat Giants won the toss and opted to bat first. However, Delhi Capitals’ opening seamer Marizanne Kapp dislodged the stumps of Giants’ opener Sabbhineni Meghana in the first over of the innings. Kapp also produced jaw-dropping inswinger to dismantle stumps of the WPL debutant Laura Wolvaardt in her second over.

In the same over, Kapp got the prized wicket of Ashleigh Gardner and put Giants in deep trouble. Her bowling partner Shikha Pandey also took a wicket by dismissing Dayalan Hemalatha.

Kapp continued to make inroads into the batting line-up of the Giants. She was looking unplayable at the DY Patil Stadium. She trapped set batter Harleen Deol plumb in front of the wickets. Harleen could make 20 runs off 14 balls.

Gujarat Giants registered a mediocre score of 31 off five in the power play due to an outstanding spell by Kapp. Kapp bagged her fifth wicket of the day with Sushma Verma in her last over. She recorded the best bowling figures in WPL 2023- 4/15 in four overs.  

Due to this extraordinary spell of Kapp, Delhi restricted Giants to a middling total of 105 in 20 overs.

Shafali Verma Smashed A Blinder Of A Knock

While chasing a moderate total, Delhi opener Shafali Verma provided a flying start to her team. She smashed left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar for a six and four in the second over of the innings. She did a hat-trick of fours off pacer Kim Garth. Shafali and Skipper Meg Lanning pummelled four boundaries and one six together to collect whooping 23 runs off an over bowled by Gardner.

Shafali reached her second fifty in the WPL 2023 in just 19 balls. Both openers  Shafali and Lanning stitched an unbeaten partnership of 107 to help the Capitals to defeat the Giants by 10 wickets. Shafali remained unbeaten on 76 off just 28 balls. Her rambunctious knock was studded with 10 sublime fours and five towering sixes.
