WPL 2026 Likely to Be Played in Mumbai and Baroda, Set for Jan 7 Start and Feb 3 Final. WPL is likely to return in early 2026 with a new schedule and two-city hosting, most likely in Mumbai and Baroda. When the WPL was first mentioned, it was stated that the fourth edition would begin on January 7, 2026, and conclude with a final on February 3, 2026.
Reports suggest that the first leg of the tournament will be played in Mumbai, with DY Patil Stadium emerging as a leading option. The shift to an early-January window marks a strategic move from previous editions, which were traditionally played in the February–March cycle. The move is made to coordinate with the global cricket calendar, specifically to avoid a congested match series with the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup commencing in early February.
Why the January Window?
The second stage of the WPL 2026 – the playoffs and finals – is likely to be hosted in Baroda, with plans to select Kotambi Stadium. The latter stadium hosting plans will take place after an international men’s ODI, scheduled to be held in Baroda just days earlier, on January 11, which should serve as a transitional point to set up housing in time for subsequent events. Franchise officials are determined to bring it to all WPL hosting sites and time settings, generally considering it an event called the WPL auction later this month.
The two-city format is intended to ease logistics, enhance attendance, and maximise coverage. Mumbai has an established infrastructure for cricket, serving as a solid home for the start of the league, whilst Baroda is a developing market that is rich in fans of women’s and top-level cricket.

Although the BCCI has yet to formally announce the dates and venues, a proposed date and location gives teams, broadcasters and fans a window of time to prepare.
