2023 was a fairly successful year for the Indian tennis. This year some players like Rohan Bopanna are having an excellent season. He played in the Australian Open finals in the Men’s doubles category and the US Open finals in the Mixed doubles category. He won the Asian Games mixed doubles gold medal partnering with Rutuja Bhosale. Apart from them, Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan won the silver medal in the men’s doubles category. 

The upcoming season will be huge as India will send a large contingent to the Olympic Games, hoping for at least one medal in tennis.

Rohan Bopanna 

The veteran is currently the most established player in the Indian tennis arena. He has been on the professional tour for more than two decades. Initially playing under the shadow of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, he has developed his niche since the retirement of two greats. At present, he is the only grand slam winner for India having won the mixed doubles title in French Open in 2017. This season was quite impressive as he won the mixed doubles gold in the recently concluded Asian Games 2022. Rohan Bopanna also played two doubles grand slam finals this season with both ending in defeats. The total earnings of Rohan Bopanna amount to $5,702,505.

He is India’s next-best player after Rohan Bopanna. There is not much to show in the professional tour but he is India’s mainstay when it comes to international events like the Davis Cup. His most significant achievement was reaching the career-high ranking in singles of 83 in 2018. Yuki’s career earnings from tennis are $1,211,476. 

N Sriram Balaji 

Another unsung hero for Indian tennis, Sriram Balaji has kept India’s flag high in the doubles segment. His most significant professional career final was the Maharashtra Open partnering with Jeevan Neduncheziyan in 2023. Apart from this, he also has two gold medals in the men’s team and doubles team in the South Asian Games 2019. His total earnings is $332,718.       

Saketh Myneni 

Another player who has made his mark in the doubles category. He has two Asian Games medals to his name – one silver and one gold. Both of these medals came in the 2014 Asian Games. He won the gold in the mixed doubles category partnering with Sania Mirza. Apart from this, he won the silver medal in the men’s doubles category with Sanam Singh. He also recorded his debut at the Wimbledon Championship in 2023 and also first career wins at the French and Australian Open in 2023. The total earnings of Saketh are $461,026. 

Ankita Raina

Ankita Raina is the highest-ranked singles player in the women’s segment. She is India’s most successful women’s tennis player after Sania Mirza. She has a singles bronze medal at the Asian Games which she won in the 2018 edition. Raina has represented India consistently in the Fed Cup in both the singles and doubles segments. Although doubles are not her preferred category she also has an impressive record in it. She has a 60% win record in the Fed Cup. Ankita has earned a total of $675,771. 

Sumit Nagal  

The highest-ranked men’s singles player of India. He had a breakthrough season in 2019 when he qualified for the main draw of any grand slam for the first time. He qualified for the main draw of the US Open. Guess what he faced the great Roger Federer in the first round. Although he lost the match he put up a spirited performance against the master. In the 2020 US Open, he recorded his first victory in the Grand Slam main draw. He also has the distinction of being the highest-ranked singles player of India across men’s and women’s categories. Sumit Nagal’s total career earnings are $704,295  

Rutuja Bhosale 

Mainly featuring in the doubles category, Rutuja Bhosale has won a gold medal partnering Rohan Bopanna in the mixed doubles category at the Asian Games 2022. She is a young player and has all the abilities and can be a worthy successor of Sania Mirza in the double category. Rutuja Bhosale’s total career earnings are $110,227.
