Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy Announced for India vs England Series, Pataudi Medal for Winning Captain. In a landmark change ahead of the Test series to be played between India and England, beginning June 20, 2025, in Leeds. The five-match series will be played as “Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy” in honour of two all-time greats: Sachin Tendulkar, the highest run-scorer in Test history, and James Anderson, the format’s greatest fast bowler.
The name of the trophy replaces the existing Pataudi Trophy to denote a Test series played between India and England in England since 2007. The change initially sparked criticism from several quarters, with cricketing figures like Sunil Gavaskar and Sharmila Tagore voicing concerns about sidelining the legacy of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, one of India’s most charismatic captains.
In a gesture of respect, Sachin Tendulkar personally suggested to the BCCI that the Pataudi family’s contribution should still be acknowledged. Consequently, BCCI, ECB, and ICC decided to introduce the “Pataudi Medal,” which will be handed to the winning captain of the series. This ensures that the Pataudi name will forever be linked with this great rivalry.
