The Indian men’s football team advanced to the final of the SAFF Championship 2023 with a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Lebanon on Saturday at Bengaluru’s Sree Kanteerava Stadium. India will meet Kuwait in the final on Tuesday, having risen one position to 100th in the current FIFA rankings. Kuwait defeated Bangladesh 1-0 in the other semi-final earlier in the day.

In the 2023 edition of the SAFF Championship, a total of eight teams competed. Three more than in the previous edition, held in 2021. Following a special invitation by the All-India Football Federation (AIFF), Kuwait and Lebanon are the only two non-South Asian countries to compete in the competition.
