IPL 2025: Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad Shortlisted as Potential Venues. The Indian Premier League (IPL)-2025 is currently suspended owing to surging India-Pakistan tensions. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is trying hard to ensure that the tournament resumes safely. If the league does restart by May, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad are now seen as the top three contenders to host the remaining 16 matches.
Chosen for their top-class facilities as well as relative distance from high-tension zones. These three cities are being considered for a short multi-venue format, keeping player and public safety in mind. BCCI is working closely with the state and central security agencies to keep track of the unfolding situation.

“If security considerations stabilize, the BCCI is hopeful that the IPL will resume by mid-to-late May,” said a senior official. “In any case, there is no better logistical proposition than Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad for such a contingency.”
According to the original 2025 playoff schedule, Hyderabad was to host both Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator. While Kolkata’s Eden Gardens was assigned to host Qualifier 2 and the Final. However, with Kolkata now being ruled out due to proximity to high-alert zones and logistical troubles, the BCCI appears to be reconsidering its venue plans.
IPL 2025 Backup Plan: August–September Window Considered
If not restarted by the end of May, BCCI may choose to move the tournament into the August-September window. As was the case in 2021, when the IPL resumed in the UAE after being called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The sudden suspension and evacuation of numerous overseas players. Including Jos Buttler, Pat Cummins, and David Warner added another layer of complexity. The BCCI is also in discussions with franchises to ensure the availability of the players if the tournament happens to be rescheduled.

The BCCI is expected to make the final call in the coming days after assessing ground-level security updates. If the tournament is to be resumed soon, then all of the remaining IPL 2025 matches might be packed into just two weeks in the three shortlisted cities.
