IND vs WI 1st Test, Day 1 Highlights: India Trail by 41 Runs. The inaugural day of the 1st Test between India and the West Indies at Ahmedabad saw Indian bowlers take control in the first session before India’s superior top order consolidated the innings. By the conclusion of the day, India reached 121 for 2, 41 runs behind the West Indies’ first-innings total of 162.
West Indies Collapse to 162
The West Indies were all out for 162, after winning the toss and electing to bat, as they fell to the discipline of the Indian attack. Mohammed Siraj was the standout bowler, with figures of 4 for 40, while Jasprit Bumrah was also impressive at 3 for 42. Kuldeep Yadav’s variations were equally troublesome for the visitors as he took 2 for 25. Multiple batsmen made starts, but none were able to build a big score. Shai Hope made the highest score of 26, and the West Indies captain, Roston Chase, fought for 22*. The West Indies capitulated from 70 for 2 to 162 all out, giving the advantage to India early on.
India’s Steady Recovery
Yashasvi Jaiswal was looking tidy while scoring quickly and reached 36 before losing his wicket attempting a high-risk shot. Debutant Sai Sudharsan (7) followed shortly after—India’s innings looked a little bumpy. However, the experienced KL Rahul was able to stabilize the innings and scored a respectable 53 off 114 balls*, marking his 20th Test fifty. Managing some minor discomfort, Rahul played sensibly and consolidated his innings. Captain Shubman Gill batted with sensibility and preserved his wicket until the close of play for a modest score of 18, preventing any further damage to India’s innings.
