IND vs ENG: Joe Root Becomes Second-Highest Run-Scorer in Test Cricket History. Once again, England batter Joe Root has entered the record books of cricket, this time on Day 3 of the fourth Test between England and India at Old Trafford. Root surpassed the records of three legends of the game, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, and Rahul Dravid, to become the second-highest run-scorer in Test history.

Root began Day 3 with 13,259 test runs, Dravid had 13,288, Ponting 13,378, and Kallis had 13,289 runs. As a result of passing both respective totals, he is batting on Day 3 of the test with 13,380 runs. He is now behind Sachin Tendulkar (15,921) in the all-time list. Root is only a few runs away from surpassing Sachin to become the highest-ever run-scorer in Test history.

Additionally, Root became the first-ever batter to score over 1,000 runs in Tests at Old Trafford, which is another remarkable achievement at one of the most iconic cricket grounds in the world. Joe Root smashed his 38th international test hundred. He now has the most centuries against India, surpassing Steve Smith.

Root Surpasses Ponting and Kallis in 50+ Test scores

In addition to climbing the test run charts, Root also achieved another significant milestone by recording his 104th 50+ score in Test cricket, leaving Ricky Ponting and Jacques Kallis, both on 103, behind him. Root moves into second place behind Sachin Tendulkar (119) in terms of most 50+ Test scores.
