IND vs ENG 4th Test Day 1 Highlights: India 264/4 At Stumps Despite Pant Injury Blow. On Day 1 of the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, India ended strongly at 264/4, but there were encouraging notes, with Rishabh Pant retiring hurt after being hit on the foot.

England had won the toss and deferred to bowl first with an overcast sky. Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul got the visitors off to a solid start with a 78-run partnership. Jaiswal was looking impressive at a stylish 58, while Rahul succumbed for 46, reaching 1,000 Test runs in England, joining the legends Tendulkar and Kohli.

India lost some quick wickets in the second session as captain Shubman Gill fell cheaply for a tally of 12 after some critics slammed his poor indiscretion. However, Sai Sudharsan held innings with a patient 61 and provided an important contribution in the middle order, adding runs to India’s total.

The only concern for India came in the last session, as Rishabh Pant, who looked fluent after hitting a six, was forced to retire hurt after he hit his foot while playing a reverse sweep. Pant had just become the first wicketkeeper to score 1,000 runs in Tests in England.

England’s bowlers, spearheaded by Stokes and debutant Liam Dawson, kept things tight but were able to restrict India from achieving a solid base. With uncertainty surrounding Pant’s injury, India will look to surpass 300 on Day 2. The match remains well balanced, but Pant’s fitness is a huge factor going forward in the series.
